England's best foot

In only her second competitive game under new coach Fabio Capello, the English national football team has drawn second blood. Croatia ended England's dream for excitement at the Euro 2008 soccer fiesta. Today, Croatia suffered as young Theo Walcott, relishing the confidence Capello reposed in him by playing him from the start instead of a more experienced David Beckham, slotted in three past the Croatian goalie.

Having been robbed of one man, due to an elbow that drew blood off the face of Joe Cole, the Croatians could have had it in their minds that Capello's men were not going to allow the pre-Euro 2008 events repeat themselves. The discipline on display from the English team also removed any doubts even the most pessimistic English fan could have nurtured going into this Wednesday encouter. A 4-1 scoreline, only yesterday, seemed far-fetched. Today, THIS English team can do no wrong . . .

There's no point stating the obvious. Capello, it might be early days yet to say this, seems to know what he's doing. He's actually putting his best foot forward, that's what . . . right?

Federer's best foot forward

Roger Federer laid his hand on a trophy for only the first time this year with a resounding victory of Grand Slam final newbie, Andy Murray. The scoreline tells the story, 6-2 7-5 6-2. Murray didn't stand a chance. Even with the entire Scottish fan-base rooting for their own, his overcoming the number one the previous day and a nagging knee problem combined with an excellent display from the defending US Open champ.

Federer made it seem easy. Though many of the A-List celebrities may have gone for the underdog, Federer remained undeterred as he made it clear he was no push-over no matter how the year had been for him so far!!!

Up Federer. He seems all but ready to continue rewriting the history books. One win away from equally Pete Sampras' 14 grand slams in the Open era, his dazzling form portrays his readiness to keep at this for a while.

Watch out Nadal. The number one spot is in the market . . .
